Classic Pickle and Cheese Sandwich

Here is a sandwich that we like to have when we have all the ingredients handy.  Even though there are only a few ingredients, sometimes I just don't have pickles and cheese at the same time.  I grew up eating this and love its simplicity.  GR and JK are learning to appreciate it, too.

Classic Pickle and Cheese Sandwich

Ingredients:

Several slices of your favorite bread: we used sourdough
Vegenaise or Nayonnaise
Sliced dill pickles or bread and butter style pickles: we used Bubbies bread and butter chips this time around
Follow Your Heart Vegan Gourmet cheese, cheddar style, sliced into strips

Directions:

Spread a layer of vegenaise or nayonnaise on your bread, a little thicker than usual.  Cover with pickle and cheese slices.  Top with the other slathered bread, and bite.  Mm-mmm.  Serve with chips or homemade fries for a real take-you-back-to-childhood lunch or dinner.  Feeds five hungry vegans.

  1. Classic Vlasick. Can't say that I've ever had one of these but I don't usually turn down a pickle. Have you ever had a peanut butter and pickle sandwich??

  4. Oh cheese and pickle was my absolute favorite when I was a kid. Pretty much everyday of my grammar and middle school career included either cheese or peanut butter sandwich in my packed lunch. I'm more of a mustard girl, but you're right...these hit the spot and bring back school day memories.

  5. PS: I'm also a Bubbies fan; the pickles are delicious and no yellow #5 either! :)

  6. All of my comments seem to disappear. They are not on the last two posts!

I don't think I've ever had a cheese and pickle sandwich, but it sounds good. Do you ever have it grilled? Or toasted in the waffle iron?

  7. FF, I've never had a pb and pickle sandwich. Have you? Would you recommend it? Perhaps I'll make little JK eat one as an experiment and let me know how it is.

Millie, thank you. It's tasty to us. :-)

S.V., a pickle sandwich, you say? Why not!

Rose, Oh, I'm planning on posting on all the famous childhood favorites. Gotta pass them on, you know. And, yes, I picked Bubbies for the lack of food coloring, too. My mom makes a pretty good batch of bread and butter pickles, though.

Andrea, how frustrating about the comments. I hate it when Blogger doesn't work. I've never thought to grill this sandwich. Perhaps I'll give it a try - grilled pickles, hmm.

  11. Looks delicious. I'm a fan of cheese and pickles so I could see myself eating such sandwiches, especially between two pieces of buttered toasted bread.
