Pasta with a Kick

This is a simple recipe that I created from what was on hand once, and I've enjoyed making it since then because it's so tasty. You only need three ingredients, so that's even better!

Pasta with a Kick
Ingredients:

1 lb. of your favorite pasta (we used radiatori)
2 cups of fresh pico de gallo (we use the kind with no liquid)
1/4 cup of nutritional yeast flakes

Directions:

Prepare pasta according to package directions, and drain. Pour into a large serving bowl and stir in the pico de gallo and nutritional yeast flakes. Mix thoroughly to coat. This is surprisingly tasty, trust me. You can add more or less flakes to suit your taste. I have found adding that 1/2 cup, though, makes the dish sticky, so I wouldn't recommend going to that amount. Feeds five hungry vegans. Enjoy!

  1. yum! I am incorporating some cooked food back into my raw diet so this sounds yummy. Do you know if you have to keep nutritional yeast in your frig? I hope not as mine is in the pantry and it has been opened.

  2. Hi, RawSierra!

This is "kinda" up your alley, since the pico de gallo is raw, so that's good. And, you do not have to refrigerate nutritional yeast. Hope you like it.

Hi, Judy - oooh, your fellow campers are going to be jealous, but they won't be able to steal any b/c they'll be too bloated! :0 Tell me if you like it. Have a great time camping. Where are you going, by the way? We love to camp in CA too.

  9. I've been looking for more recipes with nutritional yeast, and although I try to not eat too much pasta, I reckon I could go along with this for sure :)

  10. Hi, Girl on Raw,

Thanks for stopping by! Like I told RawSierra, at least the pico de gallo is raw, and the nutrional yeast is healthy. :) Hope you like it.

  12. Hi, Oraphan, this is tasty, but it might be a bit spicy for some kids. Most pico de gallo has jalapenos, so you just have to know if your children can handle that heat. Have a great week!

  13. Oh Blessedmama, I just found your blog while I was drifting through some of other blogs and I love it. I too am a Christian blessed mom, with two children and a wonderful husband. I am a stay at home wife and always have been one. It is inspiring to find another!!! While I was never able to homeschool our children(due to illness) I have always loved the idea of teaching my children!! Your food looks really delish!! I am a vegan and my oldest daughter is too, my youngest is a vegetarian and my hubby is a omni....I cook all the meals our family eats, so I cook all day long it seems. Thank God, I love to cook. Thank you for sharing your yummy food with all of us! If you would like you can come read some of my blogs if you run out of idea's!!!! God Bless you and yours!!!

  15. Hi, Vivacious Vegan - thank you so much for the kind words. As soon as I'm done typing, I'm going to skip over to your blog and check it out. It is always nice to discover like-minded souls. :) You can connect with me anytime. :)

Hello, Fayinagirl! Thank you, thank you for the acknowledgement. But really, when the pantry gets low, that's when we're forced to get creative, isn't it?

  16. Hi Blessed Mama! (That is such a cute blogger name! But I can tell it's close to your heart.)

When I saw your kind comments on Vivacious Vegan's blog, I wanted to come over to yours to meet you!

I noticed in your profile that you like the movie Unbreakable. So do I! It's a good one! I should add it to my own profile!

I love simple recipes! And your pasta dish looks like a winner! The Radiatori shape is so much fun! I need to find it in a whole-grain form. And anything with tomatoes and I'm happy! And nutritional yeast? Wow! I love that too! My husband and I make a yummy nutritional yeast "cheese" sauce for our pasta all the time. (The recipe's on my blog if you want to view it.) I can just imagine how tasty it is to toss together this pasta recipe; all the ingredients are wonderful!

It's been great to talk to you, Blessed Mama. I hope we talk again soon! And of course, you can come see me anytime! :)

  17. Hi, Valerie! Thanks for stopping by! You know, my husband and I just saw Unbreakable again on t.v. just the other night, and I had forgotten it when I made my movie list. I'm always updating anyway - good to know people read it, so it doesn't go to waste. :) Anyhow, it's the second time I've seen the movie, and I really like it - how a modern superhero might develop.

Well, I'll just have to pop over to your blog in a sec to check you out! :) Thanks for the kind words and see you in a minute.

  18. Hi Blessed Mama!

No worries! Your profile can never go to waste! And yours is great!

I'm excited that you want to visit my blog! I hope you find something fun over there, in my little vegan world! :)

  19. I have a question about the pico de gallo... How do you make yours? Maybe you could create a new post to talk about that. Or do you buy it? If so, do you have a favorite brand? Maybe you already posted about Pico de Gallo and I just need to search for it. I'll check, but feel free to fill me in if you have time!

You know, I already feel connected to you and your blog. It's strange because we haven't really communicated very much yet. But still, that warm familiar friend feeling is there. I feel nurtured when I come to visit your blog!

Take care, Blessed Mama! Talk to you soon! :)

  20. Oh, Valerie, I just read this today. So sorry I didn't see it earlier. I buy my pico de gallo, but it is very easy to make as well. I'm glad you feel so connected to me. :)
