Snow Pics, Review of Hometown Seeds, and an Ecolissa Clothing Discount!

Boy, there's a lot to get done in this post. Busy, busy, busy.

First, I thought I'd show you the paradise where I was for a few days, celebrating the new year. What's nice about Sacramento, besides its own quaint charm, is that it's just a couple of hours away from some great getaways: San Francisco, the Pacific Ocean, and the Lake Tahoe/Truckee/Donner Lake area.

My family stayed at a friend's cabin with my parents in the coldest weather that I have ever experienced in my entire life! Sacramento is cold when it gets below 70 degrees, and people think we're in the next Ice Age when it's below 50. I've been in Truckee and Tahoe when it's snowed, and the temps hovered in the 20's. Well, this time we were in sub-zero temps in Truckee. Ahem, I said sub-zero! But, it was beautiful. Please enjoy just a couple of snapshots of some crazy, cold fun.

Here's the Truckee cabin where we stayed.

Here is a snowball fight with some of the biggest snowballs known to mankind. That's GR hurling a chunk at SR, G, and JK. G got back at the Blessings with one about twice that size. I have some great shots of the children sneaking up on him with arms poised to throw on his unsuspecting back. This pile of snow in the foreground is covering our patio. The Truckee River is in the background.

A beautiful shot of the scenery on a walk. So gorgeous it was breathtaking. The snow sparkled like silver.

This is GR on the morning we left. She went out to recover all five toboggans that we brought that were buried in the snow. Some of my shots captured the snowflakes pouring down on her. Look at her hair and our car behind her. I hope everyone had an awesome and safe New Year!

Okay, well that was fun. But now on to Hometown Seeds. I was contacted by Melanie who offered to send me their Kitchen Herb Value Pack worth $16.99, if I would add their company as a link in my blog list. You can find them in my Veggie Friendly section. I said sure, and in a couple of weeks I received a package with ten bags of seeds in it. You can see in the picture above that I got parsley, thyme, cilantro, chives, sage, rosemary, oregano, dill, and two kinds of basil. Melanie did not ask me to review her seeds, but I told her I would anyway.

Of course, I can't review the quality until I plant them, and I plan to save one garden bed just for this purpose. However, I went to their website, http://www.hometownseeds.com/, and looked around. What I was first drawn to was their Survival Seeds packet, in case of some kind of disaster! That was exciting to me, and it offers 22,000 seeds of bunches of kinds of foods.

They also offer sprouting seeds, vegetable seeds and flower seeds. The prices seem comparable to my neighborhood nursery, so I wouldn't necessarily be tempted to buy online, unless it was a seed I couldn't normally find. Like their asparagus seeds, for instance. Everything seemed to be around two dollars a packet, but they offer various large deals. Check them out, and see what you think.

Finally, Melissa Dion from Ecolissa asked if I would post a discount on my site for her clothing website. I was not offered anything in return, more than you are being offered, but I don't do everything just for greed's sake. I checked out her site and thought, "Sure, why not?"

I asked Melissa if her site was completely animal-cruelty free, and she responded, "Everything I carry is 100% vegan. No leather, fur, wool, silk, down feather, etc. I am vegan, so it is very important to me." If you would like to check out Melissa's clothing site, her address is http://www.ecolissa.com/. You will get a 20% discount if you mention the coupon code "vegan20"when you order.

Hope you had fun checking everything out on here. Keep warm, grow plants, and wear clothes!
